By the scent of the cherry blossom
Bathed in physical performance, puppetry, visual poetry and clowning, By the Scent of the Cherry Blossom is a mini collection of fascinating tales that give voice to the world of cherry – the orchard dwellers, the sellers, the enthusiastic buyers, the myths, the legends, the infamous and sometimes surprising recipes.
Created from stories collected in the community and devised by Jo Munton and Natali Castro, the show is an ode to the living heritage of our cherry orchards at a time in which they are in danger of disappearing and a prayer for a life led by seasons that brings us in closer connection with older, slower rhythms in our sped up whirlwinds worlds.
Imagine a pop up cherry stall that unfolds from a bike trailer. Cherry covered bunting springs from the stall and the stories dance and weave in between. Fans become trees full of blossom, a knife and fork delightfully dance with a cherry pie, an old orchard man discusses his long distance memories and a young woman is transported back to her grandmothers orchard.
Fast paced and fun, inventive and playful, this is a show for all the family with the highlight (in cherry season of course) being a mindful taste of the finest freshest cherries.
After the show we will collect your stories and experiences to interweave and share in future shows.
