Applause is pleased to be delivering RePlay as part of Reconnect: Kent Children and Young People, a programme of activities taking place across Kent to help get children and young people back to the things they were doing before the pandemic.
RePlay is a creative project which aims to help students build community, tackle anxiety and grow in confidence. Working with Fabulous Projects, run by experienced drama facilitators Maryjane Stevens and Jen Ward, alongside a team of creatives, the young people will have an opportunity to create a performance and then perform a sharing of it – all in the space of 4 days!
Working in a cross year-group format, each of the 4 day workshops will bring together students from one secondary school and their feeder schools. Taking place on the secondary school campus, the students will have an opportunity to create connections with students from other year groups, become familiar with their surroundings and practice their team working and leadership skills.
Using ‘Mobile Phone Show’ by Jim Cartwright as their base, the students will be guided by the creative team to adapt and bring to life the play for a performance. The students will work with a writer to create their own pieces of writing to go in to the performance and a sound designer will guide the students in using phones, their voices and bodies to create a unique soundscape that will be used within the piece. Maryjane and Jen will then lead the students in rehearsals and physical explorations of the piece to get it ready for performance at the end of the week.
