Smallhythe Place
The Barn Theater is set in the grounds of a National Trust house, Smallhythe Place, near Tenterden in Kent. It is an intimate space seating 76 in a 16th Century Wealden Barn. It was converted into a Theatre in 1929. John Gielgud was the patron for many years, followed by Donald Sinden, our current patron is Joanna Lumley.
Parking is in a layby 50 yards beyond the house and the Theatre is reached by walking through the garden at Smallhythe Place over some uneven ground. We have a ramp into the theatre if required and please contact us if wheelchair access is required. there is a licensed tearoom serving refreshments.
